As you depart the pier, pass through Mytilene's old aristocratic neighborhood, near the landmark castle ruins, to admire the fine architecture of the old mansions. Leaving the big-city atmosphere behind, arrive in the beautiful suburb of Vareia, where you stop to visit two small but fascinating museums just down the street from each other. First is the Teriade Museum, located in the home of a Lesvos native who immigrated to Paris in the early 20th century to become a prominent art critic. His collection contains rare books and works by great 20th century painters such as Picasso, Matisse and Chagall. Teriade was also patron to the famous folk painter Theofilos Chatzimichael, whose former home you visit next. Four-rooms display 86 of his paintings commissioned by Teriade. Theofolis' work was mostly found on taverna walls, often as barter for food, so it's thanks to Teriade that you can enjoy these earthy depictions of local island life today. After visiting the museums, take a scenic drive to the village of Agiassos, lying on the pine and olive covered slopes of Mount Olympus. Considered one of the most beautiful hill-towns of Lesvos, the stone paved streets and traditional tile roofed stone houses are held in the embrace of dense forest. For many years Agiassos village was also known for its pottery, a tradition that is carried on today. Visit the Church of Virgin Mary, the village's dominant feature with all the traditional cafes and shops centered on it. Finally, enjoy a light snack and glass of ouzo, and some time to browse for local souvenirs before returning to SeaDream in Mytilene.

Notes: Please wear comfortable walking shoes. The village of Agiassos is located on a hillside with cobbled streets and visiting the church does require a bit of an effort to get there; but you will find the experience well worth it. A minimum participation is required to operate all Yachting Land Adventures and some have limited capacity.
