Visit Rab, on an informative walking tour that includes a visit to the Association of Rab Crossbowmen and a famous bakery producing an ancient Benedictine treat. Also travel to the village of Barbat and discover Natura Rab, a family business focusing on the growing of authentic medicinal and cultivated herbs, beekeeping and distribution of these natural products.
The small town of Rab was once encircled by medieval walls in the 12th century. Today, parts of the walls can still be seen along the cliffs, and in a few places close to the harbor. Your guided walking tour will show you some of the finest features of this lovely town, including a view of the Cathedral, a three-nave basilica dedicated to the 12th century St. Mary. Further in the town, you will visit the Church of Justina with its fine Museum of Sacral Art. Along the walk you will also have the opportunity to see the finest buildings in town, including the Church of St. John the Baptist and ruins of the ancient basilica, the Princes Palace, and the sculptures of Draga and Kaliforni in the town’s main square, just to mention a few.
Visit the Association of Rab Crossbowmen and meet one of the members who will tell you the history of the Crossbowmen of the Island Rab and their importance in preserving the Island’s tradition. The Association displays some of the most beautiful examples of crossbows and other weapons, awards and historical documents that they proudly preserve.
After the walking tour, reach your bus to start scenic drive to Vilma bakery. Vilma Bakery was founded in 1996 by Brna Vilma and a family. The late Božo Sokolić was a legendary baker in Rab and Vilma's teacher after he revealed an ancient recipe, he got from Benedictine Monastery nuns. It is the nuns who helped save the recipe intact and available for generations to come. The cake originated in Venice and was immediately accepted on the island of Rab as it was allegedly rich with almonds back in the time. See the production process and enjoy the cake before the tour continues to Natura Rab.
Natura Rab production is a family-run business. They see their prospects in mobile ecological bee-keeping on the south part of island Rab village Barbat and on the sea-facing slopes of the mountain Kapela and the nature park Velebit. The farming house, with its space and technology, integrates the process of gathering, enriching and packing honey and other agricultural produce. Enjoy at visit of the factory and tasting of the Bio products before return to your yacht in port.
