Located on the southwest coast of Virgin Gorda sits The Baths, where underwater reefs, rock life, and tropical fish abound. The Dogs, a small group of uninhabited islands just of the west shore of the Virgin Gorda is another top pick for exploration and adventure—as are the many bays, such as Savannah Bay, just north of Spanish Town, that the island has also set up as self-guided snorkeling trails.
Spanish Town, Virgin Gorda
Your SeaDream yacht anchors off Spanish Town to provide a special view of the island. You may also consider excellent scuba diving options or an opportunity to swim with the dolphins. As the island’s largest town, Spanish Town is home to incredible cuisine and local culture, including the remnants of early African, Spanish, and Indian settlements.
Gorda Peak National Park, Virgin Gorda
This national park is hidden in plain sight. From Leverick Bay, rising from the British Virgin Islands’ Virgin Gorda, sits a 254-acre national park. One of the last remaining examples of Caribbean dry forest in the region, Gorda Peak National Park boasts a lush trail network that leads to scene views from the island’s highest point of 1,370 feet. Following trails that pass through lush tropical forests and lead to the lookout tower at the Peak, hikers are rewarded with a panoramic view of the British Virgin Islands, especially the anchorage at North Sound. On a clear day, Anegada Island is visible on the horizon to the northeast, making the hike especially rewarding.
The Copper Mine, Virgin Gorda
View the Virgin Gorda through the lens of history at the Copper Mine, a national park containing the ruins of an abandoned nineteenth-century copper mine. Although the mine was abandoned in 1862 and never reopened, sections of the original stack, the engine house, and the main building remain. Several of the Cornish miners started families with the native islanders, their descendants still living on the Virgin Gorda today.
