Position: Bosun, SeaDream I
About: Bernie has been with SeaDream Yacht Club for 10 years, working his way through the ranks to Bosun, SeaDream I’s senior deckhand responsible for the safety, maintenance, and overall functioning of the yacht. He loves his time on board with his team and the rest of the crew and enjoys relaxing at home with his family when he takes time off from his official duties.
Q: Where is your favorite place to travel in the Caribbean—and why?
Bernie: Jost van Dyke is my island favorite, particularly White Bay. It has an incredible beach, and is home to our signature Champagne & Caviar Splash® and beach party. A guest favorite, Jost van Dyke is truly a low-key secluded island that is one of the most pristine in all of the British Virgin Islands.
Q: Where is your favorite place to travel in the Mediterranean—and why?
Bernie: I love Spain and the Balearic Islands, but if I had to choose just one place, it would be Barcelona. SeaDream docks right near the city center—putting the best of this city within easy reach. Barcelona has so much to offer, including a rich history, welcome culture, and inspiring architecture. To the shopping and restaurants offered on Las Ramblas to the cobblestoned Gothic Quarter, there is so much to take in. I also love spending time in Gaudi’s Park Güell, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Q: What are you most looking forward to as we sail Northern Europe and Scandinavia in our upcoming seasons?
Bernie: I am looking forward to exploring new places throughout Scandinavia and Northern Europe, and of course the fjords of Norway. Basically, the joy of seeing a new destination for the very first time in my life.
Q: What does “It’s Yachting, Not Cruising®” mean to you?
Bernie: The atmosphere and environment are much more casual and friendly when you yacht. It is the exact opposite of big-ship cruising.
Q: What is it that you love most about SeaDream?
Bernie: Our guests and crew alike treat each other like family. It is not a ship, it is a home.
